Christine Stockwell
Since leaving Twickenham College with a diploma in illustration, North Walsham artist Christine Stockwell has worked as a freelance writer and researcher, twice republishing the Clement Scott book on North Norfolk, Poppyland.

She had not picked up a paintbrush for nearly 30 years until, in 2004, her daughter asked her to paint a picture of the family's old bull terrier, Tom.

The painting was a success, and Christine has been producing striking, colourful pictures ever since.

She sold 50 paintings in her first year, and although she says she is delighted that people find her work appealing, she insists she does not see herself as a "serious" artist.

"My approach is to choose a really good iconic image, paint it several times, and then look for another," she says. "I would never paint a landscape or scene - I aim for colourful eye-catching close-ups, and if I can get a dash of humour in there somewhere, so much the better."

Christine has been received many commissions to paint family pets, but she avoids producing a straightforward portrait; instead choosing to paint something a little more quirky.

"I just want to keep on producing images that are entertaining and attractive," she says.

Christine Stockwell's paintings are on show at the Garden House gallery, Garden Street, Cromer, the Perfect Pad, Norwich, and at New Leaf Framing, North Walsham. You can see more of her work at www.theperfectpad.co.uk Contact Christine on 01692 404054 or e-mail c.pearl@ic24.net
