Andrew Dibben
After studying at Bournemouth College of Art and Norwich School of Art, Andrew worked in a number of jobs before spending nine years as senior technical illustrator at Lotus cars. He became a full-time professional artist in 1989.
Since then, he has specialised in landscape and marine subjects in a diverse range of styles, with his highly popular paintings selling in 30 countries. He has had commissions from large shipping companies in Europe, Scandinavia, and the USA, and his paintings hang on board many of their ships, as well as in their offices.
Working on the spot, and at his studio from the hundreds of photographs he takes while travelling at home and abroad, Andrew has often turned to the North Norfolk coast for inspiration, with subjects including Salthouse, Blakeney, Wiveton, West Runton and Blickling Hall.
After a number of years spent concentrating on producing paintings featuring architecture, Andrew's recent landscape work has seen a simplification of style and a preference for dramatic dusk and night time scenes. He says he has become drawn to "wild" places such as Holkham and Cley Marshes, and is currently working on a series of paintings featuring migrating geese.
"I think that when you go out into the landscape, something always catches your eye and you realise that there are more subjects that you could ever have time to paint," he says.
He has published a number of books, with the latest, Andrew Dibben's Norfolk Waterscapes, containing a foreword by author and broadcaster Keith Skipper, and featuring 110 new paintings. Subjects are drawn from the North Norfolk coast, the Norfolk Broads and rivers, and the waterfronts of Norwich and King’s Lynn. The book, priced £24.99, is available at bookshops, from Picturecraft Gallery, Holt, or directly from the artist on (01603) 401888.
Andrew Dibben original paintings and prints are on show at Picturecraft Gallery, Holt, The Old Reading Room Gallery and Tea Rooms, Kelling, and Baron Art, Holt. You can also see more of his work at www.andrewdibben.com
