Brian Lewis

Brian Lewis
The first artist featured in our popular series of competitions was Brian Lewis of Sheringham, whose picture, Crab boats, Overstrand shows the view from the village’s cliff-top café.

“The owners at that time had two West Highland terriers and the dogs in the foreground, the fisherman cleaning their boats, and the sea beyond seemed to sum up the scene,” Brian said.

After attending Epsom and Guildford Schools of art, Brian studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1967 – 70. He moved to North Norfolk in 1980, quickly becoming one of area’s most popular artists.

His Sheringham studio is the former Beeston church hall, which he re-named Bees Hall after painting the outside of the building a characteristically sunny yellow and blue.

Brian’s paintings, many of which are inspired by the coastline and by the villages, towns and churches of the area, have been exhibited in Norfolk and London, with subjects including Gresham’s School, Blickling Hall and the seals at Blakeney Point.

“I like painting the happy, sunny days and it would seem that people prefer to look at the sun, the sand and the sea rather than the grey days,” he says.

To make an appointment to visit Brian’s studio, telephone (01236) 823863 or to see more of his work visit his website, www.art-e-mail.com
