My view, come on, Tesco, le'ts be having you!
I admit it, I'm an incomer, 30 years ago, Sheringham has doubled in people/houses size since then, facilities are the same , even less if you look around with more than the cursory glance.
We have a Co-op, which struggles manfully on against the odds, a Budgens which doesn't.( Layout, prices, short-stocked shelves, then pay for it....) (Incidentally, if I stored all that rubbish, and the lorry trolleys, in that public walkway to the car park, which are a painful memory to more than one family in this town, I'd be in court by now!).
Now, own- up time
1. Who goes to Morrisons or gets Tesco to deliver anyway.
2. If you get your fresh bloomer, cottage loaf etc from the Bakers, now, are you really going to got toTesco for your cheapie?
3.Butchers. Same with YOUR cut of meat.
4. We have 3 main street greengrocers, they are all patronised well and have been since I can remember, each one does their bit, their regular customers aren't going to got to Tesco in droves.
5. Fishmongers, same again. Is everyone going to get their fish from Tesco, Maybe ask Q. 1 again?
6. Estate agents, banks, building societies, they are not governed by Tesco rules!They can turn into wine bars at the touch of a notice.
7. Pet shops, well estalished, they'll not lose. Shoe shops, 'pound', '50p' shops, cafes ,restaurants, pubs. All will be here, hereafter!
8. Chemists, Hardwares, Bookies, Shoes, Woolies, Gifts, Takeaways, Previously Owned Goods Emporia, hairdresser salons, and others similar.What are you so worried about, the character of Sheringham, it went years ago! All safe .
9. Wine shops, nationals, adjust the profits!
Now ask youself, who is going to close down, apart from the profiteers who should do....they know who they are!
If there is anyone I've forgotten, sorry, but my whole point , there is an army of us out here who want the luxury, nay necessity, of Tesco in town to help get some value from our pound in the availablity and purchase of a few basic items ,and not have to travel to , at least, Cromer for them.
Bribes from Tesco, FACT OF LIFE!, accept it and get on. The area along Cromer Road is in need of refurbication. Fire station, commumity centre, new housing, forget the traffic problem, it's here already.At least, the crossing lights give a break in the flow, an island further down would help. Give us another island at Holt Road . Forget the current plan using the car park, we need more parking, not less. Daft enough, the market is the only bit of character we have maintained!!!!!
Plenty of room near the rec. for allottments, and get a view of the train from London to Holt(?) from the community centre there as well.
I await the deluge of attack.........
